Le département d’Architecture, urbanisme, paysage et planification de l’université de Harvard se réjouit de l’invitation à participer à la 8ème édition du FAV et exprime sa gratitude aux organisateurs. Cela a été pour les étudiants une occasion unique d’imaginer une oeuvre saisissante et éphémère dans un cadre historique prestigieux. A ce titre, le professeur associé George L. Legendre a dirigé un séminaire spécial consacré à la conception/réalisation de l’installation, dont les membres ont été invité à participer à un concours d’architecture restreint. L’équipe lauréate composée de Xu Ke, Ren Tian et de Chen Chen, épaulée par le reste des participants, a développé un projet qui a été usiné dans le sud de la France, grâce à la générosité de notre partenaire et sponsor Technilum. L’installation a été assemblée sur place par les étudiants lauréats.

The Harvard University Graduate School of Design was honored to be invited to create an installation for the 8th edition of the FAV. The School saw this as a unique opportunity for our students to imagine provocative and ephemeral work in the context of a privileged historical site. Professor George L. Legendre led a special seminar at Harvard GSD devoted to the design and realization of the Installation. Students in the seminar participated in a design competition and the winning entry was developed by the winning team and installed by the students in Montpellier.

Issue de la culture traditionnelle chinoise et japonaise « mémoryscape » renvoie à une miniaturisation des espaces naturels. Dépassant, le simple état de réplique d’un paysage existant Mamoryscape transporte la mémoire d’un espace vers un imaginaire partagé. Prenant place au cœur de la cour, la compréhension de celle-ci n’est pas directe. Ces proportions et sa forme arrondie, rentrent en résonance avec l’espace qui l’entoure pour construire son propre paysage. La cour devient réceptacle et révèle dans un dialogue harmonieux un paysage imaginaire sublimé par la matière qui le constitue. Des lames d’aluminium viennent offrir une trame topographique évoquant des champs vallonnées de lavandes qui au grès des allers et venues des visiteurs se transformera. Chacun aura la possibilité de venir poser « son arbre », de moduler leur densité existante et de fait, de construire son propre paysage imaginaire. Ainsi une infinité de paysages personnels, et intimes seront construits et déconstruits tout au long du festival. Seul leur souvenir persistera alors.

Following the traditional Chinese culture and Japanese «MemoryScape» refers to a miniaturization of natural areas.
