Après avoir voyagé à travers l’Amérique du Nord pendant cinq ans, Yuliya et Petar, les fondateurs de Thrace Design Studio (TDS), sont devenus intéressés par le rôle que joue les environnements naturels et construits dans les vies des gens. Cette curiosité les a inspiré à rentrer dans le domaine du paysagisme. Après avoir finis leurs masters en paysagisme à l’université d’Oregon, Yuliya et Petar ont déménagé à la région de la baie de San Francisco, Californie où ils ont établis TDS tout en travaillant dans d’autres entreprises. Le studio cherche à inciter un intérêt dans les relations complexes entre des gens venant de différents contextes, et entre les humains et d’autres éléments du monde naturel. Yuliya et Petar prennent du plaisir à travailler sur tous les stages du processus de design, de la conceptualisation à la réalisation. www.thracedesignstudio.com
After traveling extensively through North America for five years, Thrace Design Studio (TDS) founders, Yuliya and Petar, became interested in the role that built and natural environments play in people’s lives. This curiosity inspired them to enter the field of landscape architecture. Upon completion of their graduate studies in landscape architecture at the University of Oregon, Yuliya and Petar moved to the Bay Area, California where concurrently with working at different offices they established the TDS. The studio work aims to prompt people’s interest in the complex relationships between people from different backgrounds, as well as between humans and other elements of the natural world. Cette installation célèbre chaque individu, quel qu’il soit et tel qu’il est: le boulanger enfournant ses croissants, la femme de chambre pliant la literie, l’étudiant faisant ses devoirs, le retraité plantant ses fleurs — nous sommes tous beaux. Grâce à nos différences en âge, en genre, en couleur, en provenance, notre beauté individuelle émerge de la variété des talents uniques que nous apportons à nos communautés, contribuant à la prospérité de notre société. La beauté n’a pas d’âge, de genre, de couleur ou de provenance.

This proposal celebrates each and every person: the pastry chef putting croissants in the oven, the hotel worker folding the linens, the student doing the homework, the pensioner planting flowers—each of you is beautiful. Despite differences such as age, gender, color, and origin, each person is beautiful because of bringing unique talents to the community and contributing to the prosperity of the society. Situated in the Hôtel Baudon de Mauny courtyard, this installation features abstract cut-out silhouettes of people on clear vinyl. The iridescent film cut-outs—changing their color depending on the lighting and view angle—refer to the varying perception of others, the clear vinyl to the purity and beauty of human spirit. The abstract silhouettes suggest that what matters is not one’s appearance but the person character. Beauty knows no age, gender, color, and origin. Everybody is beautiful.
